Its story

Appearance

Chespin is a bipedal, light brown mammal with darker arms, a triangular red nose, and rodent-like incisors. A tough green shell covers its head and back, with leaf-like spikes around its face.

Lifestyle

Its shell blocks powerful attacks, and its usually soft quills can stiffen to strike. Curious and optimistic, it evolves into Quilladin, then Chesnaught.

In the anime

Clemont's Chespin was given to him by Professor Sycamore. Another, nicknamed Chespie, belongs to Mairin and stays outside its Poké Ball.

Name origin

Chespin is based on a hedgehog and on a chestnut shoot or bur. Its name may combine chestnut, urchin, pin, chinkapin, and Latin spina, “thorn.”
