Shedinja looks like a cicada's shed shell: light brown body, gray abdomen, and a white crescent halo. A hole between its tattered wings shows a hollow, dark body.

Its story
Lifestyle
It comes from an empty shell when Nincada evolves into Ninjask, and can enter an empty Poké Ball. It does not breathe, floats without flapping, and lives in tropical and temperate forests.
In the anime
Shedinja battles for Colonel Hansen until Misty's Gyarados defeats it. A wild Ninjask later leaves one behind, and it enters one of Goh's empty Poké Balls.
Name origin
Shedinja may blend to shed, meaning to molt, with ninja. Japanese Nukenin joins nukegara, an empty shell, and ninja: a ninja who deserted the clan.
