Description

« Tests show that its cells closely resemble water molecules, which perhaps explains its ability to conceal its form while submerged. I believe the origins of mermaid folklore lie with this Pokémon. »

Its story

Appearance

Vaporeon is light blue, with a dark blue mark on its head and back. A white fin rings its neck, and three cream fins crown its head.

Lifestyle

It evolves from Eevee and lives near clear lakes, mostly in towns with a Trainer. It melts into water to ambush fish Pokémon.

In the anime

It debuts with Rainer, targeted by Team Rocket. Ursula's Eevee evolves into Vaporeon at the Sinnoh Grand Festival.

Name origin

Nishida designed it with mermaids in mind; Sugimori made it more feline. Vaporeon may blend vapor with eon, the shared Eeveelution suffix.

Its tail, once mistaken for a mermaid's, is thought to have inspired that folklore.
Its fins sense moisture and vibrate when rain is coming.
