« They play with each other by knocking their large tusks together. Their tusks break sometimes, but they grow back so quickly that it isn’t a concern. »

Its story

Appearance

Axew is a small grayish-green biped with pale tusks and a dark horn. Large black ovals ring its red eyes, and a forest-green collar circles its neck.

Lifestyle

If its tusks break, they grow back stronger. It marks territory, crushes Berries, nests in burrows, and climbs walls and trees. It evolves into Fraxure, then Haxorus.

In the anime

Iris's Axew dreams of becoming a mighty Haxorus and succeeds. Erina's lost female tries to find her Trainer. Drayden also has an Axew.

Name origin

The design was worked backward from Haxorus, one of the first Unova Pokémon. Based on dinosaurs and axes, the name may blend axe with chew or hew.

Did you know?

In ancient times, people used its discarded tusks as cooking knives.
It first appears in Black & White concept art beside Woobat, Servine, and Dewott.
Its crest recalls Saurolophus or the brown basilisk.
