Its story
Lifestyle
The flame on its tail shows its condition and must not go out. It lives in hot mountains, often with Trainers, then evolves into Charmeleon and Charizard.
In the anime
Abandoned by Damian, Ash's Charmander refused to leave its post. Sick after the storm, it agreed to be caught, then became Charmeleon and Charizard.
Name origin
Atsuko Nishida designed it as a lizard by working backward from Charizard, to surprise. Charmander combines “char” (to burn) and “salamander.”

- At night it sleeps curled up; the crackle of its tail can be heard in the quiet.
- The earliest drawings have three fingers; Ken Sugimori’s have four.
- It was spotted recently in the Terarium of Blueberry Academy.
