Appearance
Darkrai looks like a black shadow, an hourglass wrapped in a torn cloak. A white plume covers one teal eye, a red spiky growth rings its neck, and long black tatters hang from its shoulders.

Its story
Lifestyle
It lives on Newmoon Island and is active only on the new moon or on moonless nights. It puts people to sleep to protect its territory, and only Cresselia can cure those it has touched.
In the anime
In The Rise of Darkrai, it speaks by telepathy, turns into a shadow, and holds back Dialga and Palkia until Ash and Dawn place the Oración disk.
Name origin
Hironobu Yoshida designed it as a personification of nightmares, akin to night hags and to the new moon opposite Cresselia's crescent. The name may come from dark and Japanese kurai, both meaning dark.
