Appearance
Forretress is a large, spherical insect-like Pokémon with no visible limbs. Bumpy steel plates cover it. Opened, a smooth red shell shows four spikes and round eyes with large pupils.

Its story
Lifestyle
It fires pieces of its outer shell by reflex and opens very fast to seize prey. In tropical and temperate forests, clamped to trunks, it levitates or hops; it evolves from Pineco.
In the anime
Brock's Pineco evolves to save him, with a group of Pokémon, at a hot spring threatened by Team Rocket. Only Forretress goes with him to Hoenn, then stays home for Sinnoh.
Name origin
Forretress doubles the r of a forest-fortress blend and may mix ferro, Portuguese for iron, and turret. It suggests a bagworm in a nut shell, a clam, and a cannon fortress.
