A fish with large, heavy reddish-orange scales, vacant eyes, and pink lips. White pectoral fins and tail, a stiff three-peaked yellow crown fin, and barbels white on females, pale yellow on males.

Its story
Lifestyle
It lives in lakes and rivers, usually downstream, because it swims poorly. Slow and frail, it only flops in battle; a very old one can leap high enough to clear mountains. It evolves into Gyarados.
In the anime
James buys one, abandons it as useless, then sees it evolve. Goh enters a giant in the high jump, but Kasukarp's Shiny, Shinegoldie, wins.
Name origin
Magikarp suggests magic and carp. Japanese Koiking blends koi, the carp, king, and kingyo, the goldfish.
