Description

« I suspect this Pokémon to be the true identity of a dragon written of in ancient texts, which claimed that it razed an entire village with white-hot beams from its maw. »

Its story

Appearance

Gyarados is a dragon-like fish with a long blue serpentine body and a yellow underside. It has four fangs, red eyes, a three-pointed crest, white fins, and white or blue barbels.

Lifestyle

It evolves from Magikarp and lives in fresh or salt water. Feared since ancient times, it rampages for a month. Its fangs crush stone and its scales are harder than steel.

In the anime

A red Gyarados, caught by Lance, helps stop Groudon and Kyogre, then becomes the first Pokémon in the series to Dynamax.

Name origin

The name Gyarados may come from gyakusatsu, massacre, and dosu, a piercing sound, or from the monsters Gyaos and Rodan.
