Lifestyle
Very proud, it becomes impossible to control in a rage; only a longtime Nidoqueen can calm it. A male-only final form of Nidoran♂ after Nidorino, born by stone, rare on savannas and plains.
In the anime
Rivals often rely on it. Gary’s Nidoking crushes Giovanni’s Golem, then falls to Mewtwo, a fight shown again in the films.
Name origin
Ken Sugimori designed it among the first Pokémon, after a giant movie monster: rhinoceros, gorilla, rabbit, and porcupine. The name may come from nīdoru, “needle,” king, and nido, “twice.”
