Its story
Lifestyle
Curious and playful, it roasts Berries with its electricity and lives in groups in distant forests. Their tails touch as a greeting; when angry, it releases energy as strong as lightning.
In the anime
Ash’s Pikachu, received from Professor Oak, stays outside its Poké Ball. It remains his partner from the original series through Pokémon Journeys, movies included, and can Gigantamax.
Name origin
Its name comes from pikapika, the crackle of electricity, and chūchū, a sound that stresses how cute it is. Ken Sugimori is also said to have named it after a childhood sweetheart’s hamster.
Did you know?
- It is not based on the pika or a mouse’s squeak, even though those words sound close.
- Without enough sleep, it cannot release its full power.
- Overusing the gift of recharging a friend, as with Peakychu, pales the fur and blocks its own electricity.
