Its story
Lifestyle
Very proud, it rarely takes food from people and often trips, then puffs out its chest. A strong swimmer of cold seas, it evolves into Prinplup, then Empoleon.
In the anime
Dawn chooses it after it wrecks Professor Rowan's lab and flees an Ariados. It stays her main Pokémon, usually outside its Poké Ball.
Name origin
Yusuke Ohmura designed it after a penguin chick, possibly an emperor, with a tailcoat-like body. Piplup comes from pip and plup, a splash.

- The animated series has shown it flying a short way.
- As it falls asleep it may totter, and it hates being fussed over.
- An earlier name, Piploop, was dropped because it sounded bad in English.
