Its story
Lifestyle
It burrows into sand to sleep and lures prey with its tongue. Clamped to a Slowpoke, the pair becomes Slowbro or Slowking, including the Galarian forms.
In the anime
Jessie caught one on Seafoam Island. It bit a Slowpoke’s tail, the Pokémon became a Slowbro, and Shellder left Team Rocket.
Name origin
The English name may blend shell and shelter. Shellder suggests a clam, its tongue standing in for a foot, and its swim recalls scallops.

- Its shell, said to be harder than diamond, was once used to make shields.
