Its story

Appearance

Tapu Fini is a Legendary with a black, mermaid-like body and light blue fins like flowing hair. Its violet shell looks like a swordfish head when closed.

Lifestyle

Guardian of Poni Island, it controls water and draws strength from ocean currents. Its fog puts foes into a self-destructive trance, and it helps only those who prove worthy.

In the anime

It was first seen in part with the other guardians as they sensed Nebby's birth. It later appeared fully and returned often through Sun & Moon.

Name origin

Closed, it suggests a swordfish and a tiki statue; open, a mermaid. Tapu Fini joins tapu, meaning sacred, with fin, and may echo Kanaloa, god of the ocean.
