Lifestyle
Only males exist; Illumise's sweet scent draws them. Swarms use their glowing tails to talk and draw patterns in the sky. They live by clean forest ponds and leave if the water turns dirty.
In the anime
In Camp Pikachu he guides Pikachu and his friends at a mill. Edna recalls mating dances with Illumise in a large tree in Fuchsia City.
Name origin
Volbeat draws on a firefly colored like Cyphonocerinae and on a 1950s greaser, or Japanese bōsōzoku: black shirt, stripes, and collar. The name may mix volt, beetle, and beat.
