It resembles a baboon or a mandrill: coarse black fur, a gray belly, and wing-like crests. Its eyes are red with green irises, and its fangs stay visible.

Lifestyle
Zarude live in aggressive troops and attack outsiders. Their vines strike, swing through trees, grab food, close wounds, or draw energy from trees.
In the anime
In Secrets of the Jungle, the Dada form leaves its troop to raise Koko, an orphaned child. That bond is said to give it a strength of its own.
Name origin
The name Zarude blends Japanese saru, “monkey,” with English rude. Its look recalls black lemurs and monkeys from folklore.
