Its story

Appearance

Arcanine is a large orange canine with jagged black stripes. Shaggy beige fur covers its head and chest, and its beige tail bends in the middle.

Lifestyle

Fiercely brave and loyal, it runs 6,200 miles in twenty-four hours thanks to an inner flame. Rare in the wild, it evolves from Growlithe by stone and lives on prairies.

In the anime

It debuts with Gary against Giovanni: it defeats his Kingler, then Mewtwo overwhelms it. The Arcanine of Diana, Liko's grandmother, returns in Pokémon Horizons.

Name origin

Ken Sugimori designed it after the Chinese guardian lion and brindle dogs. Arcanine blends arcane, for its legendary aura, and canine.
