Appearance
Ariados is a red spider with purple eyes, white mandibles, and a pale horn. A face-like mark sits on its rear, and its hooked yellow legs climb walls.

Its story
Lifestyle
It nests deep in temperate and tropical forests and hunts only after dark, following a thread back home. It wraps prey, drinks its fluids, and evolves from Spinarak.
In the anime
J’s Ariados binds theft victims and even holds Ash near Regigigas. Oakley also uses hers to capture Latios and Latias.
Name origin
It suggests a spider with head and abdomen reversed, silk-spitting spiders, and horned tarantulas. Ariados may blend Ariadne’s thread with Spanish dos, “two.”
Did you know?
- It spins thread from the rear spinneret and also from its mouth.
- Sometimes it frees prey on one thread, then follows it to the prey’s companions.
- An early prototype looked like a two-headed spider.
