Its story

Appearance

Grotle is a four-legged turtle with light green skin. Its yellow, sectioned shell of hardened soil has three brown ridges and two bush-like trees.

Lifestyle

It leads other Pokémon to pure water springs, lives in forests, and leaves by day so sunlight can reach its trees. It evolves from Turtwig into Torterra.

In the anime

Ash's Turtwig became a Grotle in the species' debut, then evolved into Torterra.

Name origin

It seems based on a snapping turtle, a World Turtle (most likely Akūpāra), and armored ankylosaurs. Grotle may combine grove, grow, and turtle.

Did you know?

While asleep, it sometimes sleepwalks and stomps, dreaming of carrying its friends.
Sweet berries grow on its trees and attract other Pokémon.
In one episode, it produces acorn-like nuts instead.
