Appearance
Hippopotas is a hippo-like Pokémon with a large snout, small ears on top of its head, and a hole on its back. Males are tan with dark patches; females reverse those colors.

« Though large and languid, Hippopotas is difficult to detect due to its tendency to burrow into and lurk beneath the soil. When agitated or excited, it expels sand from its nostrils. »
Its story
Lifestyle
It bathes in sand, hates water, and swallows sand and prey while walking. Active by day, it burrows at night, travels in groups of ten, and evolves into Hippowdon.
In the anime
Ash and his friends rescued a lost Hippopotas stuck on a high ledge and brought him back to his herd. He liked riding on Ash's head.
Name origin
Its skin pattern resembles desert camouflage, and its sand spout may echo Bahamut. Hippopotas comes from hippopotamus and may also include potash.
