Larvitar is a small green reptile with rocky skin, a blunt head spike, red eyes framed in black, and a red diamond belly. Its tail looks like a boring machine.

Its story
Lifestyle
Born far underground, it grows by eating soil. After a whole mountain, it becomes Pupitar, then Tyranitar, and it copes poorly with bright light.
In the anime
Ash hatches a Larvitar from an Egg given by Professor Elm, to return to its mother on Mt. Silver. Painfully shy, it freezes around anyone but Ash or Pikachu.
Name origin
Its look suggests dinosaurs and kaiju, and its appetite may echo the Tarasque. Larvitar may blend larva with tar, a nod to old ideas about dinosaurs.
