Its story

Appearance

Lycanroc is a wolf-like canine with three forms. Midday is a light brown quadruped with a white mane and sun-shaped rocks. Midnight is a red, bipedal werewolf whose mane forms a crescent moon.

Lifestyle

Rockruff becomes Midday Form through Solgaleo's solar energy, Midnight Form through Lunala's lunar energy, or Dusk Form at sunset. Midday is calm and loyal; Midnight craves battle.

In the anime

Ash owns a Dusk Form Lycanroc that rivals Gladion's Midnight Form.

Name origin

Lycanroc may come from lycanthrope and rock. It draws on extinct Japanese wolves: Midday and Dusk are wolves, Midnight a werewolf. Its Rock type echoes the mountain dog.
