A small, plump, mostly brown bird with a cream face, belly, and flight feathers. A three-tuft crest, black cheek marks, a grayish-pink beak and feet, and a three-feather tail.

Its story
Lifestyle
Docile, it would rather flee than fight. It flies straight home, and its wings whip up dust and whirlwinds. It evolves into Pidgeotto, then Pidgeot.
In the anime
It debuts when Ash tries to catch it, but Pikachu will not obey. It is the first Pokémon in the series to receive a Pokédex entry.
Name origin
Despite its name, it looks more like a house sparrow than a pigeon. Pidgey corrupts pigeon, or blends budgie, chickadee, and pudgy.

- Ekans and Sneasel hunt it in meadows and temperate forests.
- The markings around its eyes recall Ra and Horus.
- In the beta, its English name was Pidge.
