Description

« It climbs trees by hooking on with its sharp claws. Sandslash shares the berries it gathers, dropping them down to Sandshrew waiting below the tree. »

Its story

Appearance

Sandslash is yellow, with a white belly, a narrow muzzle, and blue eyes. Long brown quills cover its back, and each paw has two large claws.

Lifestyle

It curls into a ball to strike or flee and climbs trees to ambush foes. The Alolan form, with icy quills, lives high in the snowy mountains.

In the anime

In Mewtwo Strikes Back, Corey's Sandslash is captured and cloned by Mewtwo. Team Rocket at first mistakes it for a Sandshrew.

Name origin

The design blends pangolin, echidna, and the yamaoroshi yokai. Sandslash joins sand and slash, meaning to cut; Alola adds the barbegazi and the ice axe.
