Its story

Appearance

Tyranitar is a large bipedal dinosaur with green, armor-like skin. Spikes cover its head and shoulders, and triangular holes mark its chest.

Lifestyle

Insolent, it seeks fights, and its rage sets off earthquakes that level mountains and houses. It evolves from Pupitar and nests in demolished mountains.

In the anime

Alain uses one in the Lumiose Conference final against Ash. Ash also sees, inside Larvitar's memory, the Tyranitar that is its mother.

Name origin

Its upright stance suggests kaiju, and Mega Tyranitar may echo an insect leaving its cocoon. Tyranitar may blend Tyrannosaurus with tar or the Tarasque.
