Description

« Zangoose usually stays on all fours, but when angered, it gets up on its hind legs and extends its claws. This Pokémon shares a bitter rivalry with Seviper that dates back over generations. »

Its story

Appearance

Zangoose looks like a cross between a mongoose and a cat, with mostly white fur and deep red scar-like markings. It has long black claws, pink eyes, and a large fluffy tail.

Lifestyle

Classed as bipedal, it usually walks on all fours and resists venom. Every hair stands up near Seviper; it lives in grasslands and savannas.

In the anime

Nicholai’s Zangoose battles Ash’s Treecko, then beats Jessie’s Seviper after Brock nurses it. Paul catches Chimchar because it resists several Zangoose.

Name origin

The design draws on the mongoose, a hunter of venomous snakes, and on cats such as the Persian. Zangoose may combine zan, “slash,” with mongoose.

Did you know?

Hot-blooded and brave, it also enjoys quiet, such as ocean waves.
Shows in Okinawa and Amami that pitted a snake against a mongoose are now seen as cruel.
At rest, its two long black claws curl under the forepaws.
