Zubat is a blue bat with neither eyes nor nostrils. Its wings and ears are purple, its legs have no feet, and males have longer teeth.

Lifestyle
It swarms in caves, hunts at night with ultrasonic cries, and sleeps by day hanging upside down, avoiding the sun. It evolves into Golbat, then Crobat.
In the anime
Brock catches one at Mt. Moon; it later becomes a Golbat, then a Crobat in Johto. Dr. Anna uses her Zubat Mimi's ultrasonic cries to examine patients.
Name origin
The design draws on vampire bats that drink blood, and the Poison type may echo their saliva or rabies. Zubat joins the Japanese zuba, a slicing sound, with bat.
Did you know?
- Its cries differ slightly in pitch from one colony to another.
